LGBTQ Discrimination
I assigned partners randomly for a group assignment. A transgender student came up to me the next day crying about how he was threaten by his partner to find another partner or he would hurt him.
What should I do? Change groups or make them stick it out? I don't want anyone to feel hurt or uncomfortable.

I would contact the parents immediately to conference. Be sure to have an administrator there. Explain that we do not discriminate against anyone in the classroom and that sexual/gender orientation has nothing to do with any child's ability to work as a team or contribute to groups. Definitely change their group because I'm sure they won't feel comfortable ever working with that student again.

There should be consequences for the other student and the administration should get involved if it gets worse. Not cool when students do that to other students.

Contact the parents/ let administration know as well as creating seating that causes the least distraction and disruption for other students. You want your students to feel safe in your classroom.
