Reading : Getting to know factors and multiples and understanding prime and composite numbers.
Instructions: Please read the following information as many times as needed (aloud and silent) before starting to go through the rest of the lesson pages. Understanding the content of this passage is very important since the following lesson activities will be all about this content. Feel free to print the article if needed.

* Factors are numbers you multiply together to find a product.

*Multiples are the products you get when two factors, or numbers, are multiplied together.

*Composite numbers are numbers with more than two-factor sets.

*Prime numbers are numbers with only one factor set.

*Factors set is two numbers multiplied together. For example, 2 and 4 are factors that make a multiple of 8.

Example:

What are the factors of 8?

8x1=8 so 8 and 1 are factors of 8.

What are the multiples of 8?

8x 1=8. 8x2=16, 8x3=24, etc. In this case, you would multiply 8 by other numbers and those would be the multiples of 8.
