Educators generally have positive perceptions of AI but require more professional development and support for effective implementation in educational settings, while businesses are already successfully leveraging AI tools for various operational purposes.
Objective: To explore how businesses are leveraging AI and GenAI to achieve their goals and solve problems, while examining how secondary educators are preparing students to effectively use AI and GenAI tools through the lens of the TPACK Framework.
Methods:
- Literature review of academic sources from 2006-2024
- Analysis of multiple studies examining AI adoption in both educational and business settings
- Review through the lens of the TPACK Framework and its AI-integrated variations
Key Findings:
- Educators generally have positive perceptions of AI (59% positive vs 18% negative)
- Only 20% of teachers feel prepared to use AI despite 58% desiring professional development
- Businesses are leading AI adoption with over 70% using AI in some function
- Professional development programs can significantly improve teacher AI readiness and competency
- Both small and large businesses report positive outcomes from AI implementation
Implications:
- Schools need to invest in AI-focused professional development for teachers
- Educational institutions should consider providing AI tools and resources
- Business practices can inform educational AI implementation strategies
- Teacher preparation programs should incorporate AI technology training
Limitations:
- Limited research on AI integration in teaching non-AI topics
- Many studies had broad sample sizes across different education levels
- Most research focused on recent AI developments, limiting long-term impact analysis
- Geographic limitations in some studies
Future Directions:
- Research on ethical implications of AI in education
- Studies on specific examples of AI tools in pedagogy
- Further testing of AI-integrated TPACK frameworks
- Investigation of AI's impact on various teaching disciplines
